Exercise in the 3rd Trimester



Now that I am officially in my third trimester and almost 28 weeks pregnant it is safe to say my old workout routine is no longer working for me. I started to get a little discouraged with my old workout routine and kind of fell off the horse. I was still getting my cardio in…but that’s about it. Until my husband and I went to the Baby’s and Bumps Convention in Columbus OH. That is where I met Terra! Terra is the Owner of Fit 4 Moms in Columbus OH. A class that gathers pregnant mamas like me which meets weekly to workout together. She incorporates games and talking into the workouts which makes it easier to get through the fatigue you are feeling. Also, everyone is in the same boat as you! It’s a good mix of new moms and veteran moms so you can ask questions and create relationships with everyone. I am lucky because my class is composed majorly of moms expecting in September and October! Baby Hogan will be here October 7th!!! Only three more months!!!



Since this class only meets once a week though, I am left with the rest of the week to myself. Luckily, I have been shown the light by Fit 4 Moms and I now know what kind of workouts I can still do. Since most of these are bodyweight exercises I have had to invest in exercise bands for certain body parts. I want to get back in my old routine of working out every day…not just cardio everyday so I am starting out slow. Currently I am working out 3 times a week with cardio everyday. My Goal is to get back to exercising each body part 5 days a week. Exercise is not just about me anymore, it can also affect my baby’s health. So I want to do everything I can to make sure that we are both happy and healthy.

Because of this I am also trying to do everything I can to eat healthy. Occasionally I give in to my cravings but it is a lot less now than it was in the beginning. My rule of thumb is that if the craving isn’t very strong…wait a week and see if I am still craving it before I give in. However, if the craving is healthy…I give in every time! Lucky for me, my two main cravings are sour things and Italian Dressing. I substitute Sour Patch Kids with Strawberries, Oranges, Lemons, Limes, and Pineapple. I have had a lot of success with this. When I am craving Italian Dressing it is easy to turn it into a side salad or chicken salad. Sometimes I opt for a wrap due to convenience though.



Everything has been a whirlwind and I am doing my best to navigate it. Alterations to exercise, dodging cravings and more have been difficult, but I am doing the best that I can with what I know. I am also reading 2x my usual amount because there is so much for me to learn.
